DIAC24/C3D2VPN

People at C3D2 HQ and Sublab and some other hackerspaces run a decentralized partially-meshed Virtual Private Network. The key points are:

• We use the less-used private IPv4 range 172.22.0.0/16
• We hate NAT
• We maintain a central registry: http://wiki.diac24.net/DIAC24/Topology
• Many users have their own globally-reachable IPv6 subnet
• We hate the low performance of the current IPv6 internet
• One network has at least one tunnel (ie. OpenVPN) to another network
• Exchanging route information is crucial
• We'd like to play with routing protocols
• We use BGP with private AS numbers

The project already exists for quite some years, but I'm highly demotivated by users who do peering but are too lazy to set it up again once they reinstall their routers after a few months. If you're really convinced by the idea, ready to renumber your hackerspace's network to some subnet of 172.22.0.0/16 and want to spread the word further, feel free to contact me to set up a tunnel to C3D2 HQ.
