User talk:Average/Business Plan

The reason I think this document is necessary, is because while a lot of people are starting spaces, I know of none who have a long-term vision for economic and cultural sustainability. This document is still relevant for making a true lifestyle-changing solution to the current paradigm. I post this here as an attempt to provide some leadership without forcing anyone to follow it. Also, there are various failures from lack of leadership and a need to acknowledge the need for redemption of American history and it's assets.

Summary of page[edit]

I offer a quick[er] summary of what will make successful spaces

Gather these fields together:

in a building with:

  • openable windows
  • either historical or super-modern architecture
  • lots of open (reconfigurable) floor space
  • public entrance

Ideally, located with these four assets nearby:

Filled with these resources:

  • white boards
  • open tables
  • desks with computers
  • library.

Making these four activities:

  • events (music performance, public talks, etc.),
  • game nights (bringing in youth),
  • projects (bringing in underserved and creative population),
  • teach-ins (bringing in less privileged population).

With a future of these tools:

  • woodshop
  • metalworking shop
  • laser cutters
  • 3-d printers

For these four main clients:

  • creative high-school students with time on their hands,
  • college students who need a space to build some work,
  • various tradesfolk who don't have major tools or space in which to develop their craft(s),
  • various artists/misfits who have been cast aside by the dominant paradigm.

Being fueled and organized by these forces:

Funded by these four main revenue sources:

  • memberships,
  • patrons: private donors and corporate sponsorships,
  • 50% of event revenues (music venues, teach-ins, etc.),
  • selling shelf-space for items crafted within the space.

Developing these outputs:

  • skills (for resumes, for example)
  • products (for economic innovation)
  • social value (from music and open teach-in events),
  • innovation zones (for demonstrating new lifestyles).

Need a Statement of Purpose? Here's one:

The purpose of ______ is to:

  1. To form a collaborative space open to the community,
  2. focussing on the combination of art, science, technology, and agriculture --
  3. to discover and educate on sustainable, post-industrial lifestyles, and perhaps
  4. be an incubator for new industrialism,

Revenue received is for the purpose of re-investing back into the community space as a not-for-profit and establishing funds for underprivileged community members to create even greater value within the space.
