Here's a simple beginning:
- Find some cool people and write your purpose, this will crystalize your space's identity.
- Collect some sweet hardware, install linux on computers that work,
- Provide some social space, chalk/whiteboards are good, desks, couches
- Turn on the wifi
You could literally start with that little of planning.

- A community space
- A technical and creative space
- A collective desire among members to have a better world than the current wasteland of our industrial society
Some common elements of what it isn't:
- A place focussing on commercialization of talent or products
- A place of or supporting violence or drugs
- A place that is annoyed by differences.
