Dwarves are a sturdy race of fighters, workers, and loyal friends. The mines of Moria were forged from their brethren long ago. They tend to be socialable if you haven't insulted them. They descend from iron mountains where they were forged into the form you now know. The ones you find in the forest are still the same mountain type, they just descended at a different time. In these, you can find trusted friends, formidable combatants, and a sturdy hammer. You may find some under ground, but these are the same, just from the Second Age.
Their main trait is "hardiness" and they split into two subraces: boisterous (over-mountain: "hill") or belligerent (under-mountain: "duegar").
They are naturals at navigating terrain, reading rockfalls, and noticing any other evidence of human interaction within the stones.
They may be slower than most races, but that's because internally they're still resolving their relationship to the gods. But before you go convincing them, offer them a pint and sit for awhile.
They still consume about the same amount of mana per round due to their normally heavier size, unless they happen to be thinly built. They generally won't notice dangergous depletion of mana until it's too late and collapse. They lose 3 HP per round that they may not notice until they're down to 1 HP. Their slightly fewer time slots gives others a chance to help them before the round is over. With a party of 6, you have 5 others giving one time-slot equals 5 quanta to assist.
Speaking of their predilection for pints, there is one more little bit of arcana about them. They have a tendency of flatulence. But since everyone knows about it, they never speak of it. If they don't drink, it tends to go away. You don't have to tell them that.
