The South Fulton Tool Cooperative is intended to provide workshop space, tools, and training for member and community projects, including home improvement, crafts, and small business start-ups. Not everyone can afford a complete workshop, has enough space to work, or can afford tools they rarely need to use. A combination of cooperatively-owned, and member-owned equipment allowed to be used by others, overcomes this hurdle. Some projects need skills other people have, or simply extra hands. By helping each other we can do more than any single person can. Of particular interest is bootstrapping - building our own equipment to save money.
This cooperative is in formation and early construction. We currently have a full basement (1500 sf), two upstairs rooms, and a 400 sf carport available as working space, and 3 acres total for future workshop expansion. We are developing a technical library in paper and electronic forms to help provide how-to information. We already have basic home workshop tools, and some stacks of lumber as a starting point. We have a starting budget and are renovating the basement for better lighting and power.
There are other maker/hacker spaces in the Atlanta Metro area, and we intend to cooperate with them when possible.
