Hammerspace /ˈhamər spās/ : a curious dimension where tools and devices of any size can be placed and then brought forth at the exact moment they are needed.
Hammerspace Hobby & Workshop: is a curious space in Brookside where tools and devices of every size are placed for your use at the exact time they are needed.
Hammerspace is a 7000 square foot facility which is home to Kansas City's community of makers, crafters and inventors.
It's like a hobby store with a twist or a gym for folks who build and create. It's where you go to exercise your creativity. It's where you bulk up your knowledge, and work out your designs.
Rip a board, sandblast a rusty tool, etch a circuit board, 3D-print a missing piece, or build a robot lawnmower.
Wood and metal working, silver and black smithing, welding, molding, casting, soldering, electronics, robotics, rocketry, remote control, pinewood derby, painting, or just fixing a broken doohickey. You can learn to do it all yourself.
If you already know it all, you can share what you know. Our teachers are community experts just like you. Earn some money and share your knowlege too.
Club members enjoy access to the wood shop, metal shop, CNC room, smithing tools, hand tools and shop supplies. The shops have 1200 amp 3-phase power, distributed compressed air and central dust collection.
We have power tools both large and small, from table saws to CNC routers and laser cutters. Vacuum forming tables and kilns, forges and even smelting furnaces are available.
The big room holds the electronics bench and soldering stations, large tables for projects and a classroom space with whiteboard, projector and many tables and outlets for laptops provide a quiet place to meet other makers and share ideas and projects.
All ages of makers are welcome. A "Little Makers Room" is provided for makers too small to build with powertools. Beverage and snack vending machines are also provided. Private storage lockers are available for personal tools and supplies.
