It's not clear whether flash drives are legitimate hardware anymore. There is no known solid-state hardware that can transform itself. Prior PROMS had physical fuses that were burned out to create the logic. EEPROMS, in theory, could reset hardware, but it's not clear how it gets reset to re-program. These are some new concerns after re-evaluating the machine after systemd.
