- Twin Cities Maker (TC Maker) is a community group based in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area. Our mission is to provide access to tools and equipment, education, and other resources to help people of all skill levels innovate, create, and learn.
- Our community has very diverse interests that include traditional arts and a host of science and technology related topics.
- TC Maker operates a cooperative community "maker space" for members to build projects using various media and technologies, from wood and metal working to electronics to fabrics and beyond.
- The space has evolved with additions of many woodworking, metalworking, and electronics tools. Our maker space is located in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis and we call it the Hack Factory.
- We host member classes on subjects such as Introduction to the Arduino Microcontroller, Welding Basics, and Introduction to CAD.
- There is a free open women's night on the last Tuesday of every month from 7-10pm that features hands on exposure to different topics and projects. Topics include welding, woodworking, circuit bending, soldering, crochet, paper making, printing, sewing, and e-textiles.
- Our space is used to also host meetings from groups with similar interests, such as DC612, Twin Cities Asterisk Users.
- TC Maker was launched as a website on January 6, 2009. A blog post on Makezine.com announced the creation of Twin Cities Maker.
- During 2009, we met informally at coffee shops. By November, we had joined another fledgling makerspace group to sign a lease for 700 square feet of shop space.
- On January 6, 2010, TC Maker signed a lease agreement for 4,600 square feet of space through December, 2010.
- On April, 2011, TC Maker expanded into more of the building at about 9,000 square feet.
- TC Maker has since expanded again and occupies about 13,000 square feet.
- The space is open for public visits on Wednesday nights from 7pm to 9pm.
- As of October 2024, we have over 460 members and are still growing.
