Beginning[edit]
The Greek Linux User Group (GreekLUG) is a FOSS space in Thessaloniki, Greece.
The community first gathered on the 21st of May 2007, the starting day of the 1st Biennale of Contemporary Art of Thessaloniki. Originally a part of project “Post-Programmed Territory – Farkadona”, GreekLUG served as the continuation of the GNU/Linux Lab of Farkadona built by repatriated Greeks from the former Soviet Union. The location of the first lab was inside of Thessaloniki Port.
Growing[edit]
In 2008, and following a brief period of inactivity, the space was relocated to Ptolemies 7, not too far from its original location at the port. In 2009 it was further relocated to Papanastasiou 18. Around that time, the space's entity was also formalized into an NGO, and became officially known by the name of GreekLUG.
Present[edit]
The current location of 140m² at Egnatias 98, came to be in 2011, when the municipality of Pylaia decided to support the project. In the space you will find a computer lab, server room (which mirrors a number of Linux distros), hack table, library, and living room. A small Raspberry Pi TV featuring Tux hangs on the exterior, this way you can be sure you've reached the right address.
The space is typically open after 7pm. Most crowded days are Wednesday and Saturday.
Throughout the year, various activities take place, such as:

- Discussions on FOSS Topics
- Presentations and Seminars on Technical Topics
- Linux and Python Courses for Beginners
- Chill Gatherings aka “GNU Coffee”
