Who we are[edit]

The Eugene Makerspace is a shared community workshop, located in Eugene, Oregon. Registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, with the express purpose of Fostering a collaborative environment where people can explore and create intersections between technology, science, art, and culture. EMS holds itself to the higher goals of bettering our community through access to tools and educational resources; providing opportunities for members and individuals throughout our community to access tools, knowledge, and experience that they may be unable to access on their own.

In short, we're a DIY workspace. With some interesting tools, and some folks who even know what they're doing half the time! Experiments abound at EMS, and interests and focus can range wildly depending on who's at the shop at any given time. Circuit bending, experimental music, digital art, laser cutting, 3D printing, CNC machining, blacksmithing, building retro arcade machines, battling robots, or just fixing a broken chair.

Possibly described best in one of the first things written down in our earliest days:

"A place where engineers & artists, draftsmen and dreamers can come together and bring their projects to life."

Type of organization[edit]

On May 2 2026, Eugene Makerspace re-opened after a building fire took out our last space. We received this benediction from the 42nd S.L.U.G. Queen Hilaria Gastrognome which captures our organizing philosophies wonderfully:

oh radiant tinkers grease stained philosophers children of yarn, sawdust and vibes

we gather in this temple of "i wonder what would happen if" ... where curiousity is currency is currency and failure is just part of the prototype's back story.

bless this makerspace! this castle of clamps this disco of tangled cords this feral sanctuary where perhaps a sewing machine and a soldering iron could fall in love and produce a piece of wearable art noone can sit down in.

we honor the sacred covenant of the shared shop. let this place where beginners are welcomed and experts remember what it felt like to be confused. may questions be asked boldly and knowledge be offered freely. may every tool be not exactly where you left it, but exactly where someone needs it.

we bless the hands that maintain these tools, the minds that share the skills, the hearts that keep the space weird, warm and wildly collaborative.

may you see possibility where others see trash. may you turn problems in to projects. may you reject straight lines when a wiggle will do

may you be dazzled with reckless and righteous abandon. go now noble makers, build boldly, fail fabulously and leave just enough glitter behind to let us know you were here. all hail makers, all hail stuff that gets made, and all hail the slow unstoppable ooze of creativity.

Sponsorships and support[edit]

EMS is extremely open to corporate sponsorships and other support opportunities, in so much as they help us achieve our goals of continuing to serve our members, and members of our community. Donations of tools, equipment, and supplies, new or used, are almost always welcome. Individuals can also support EMS with donations through Paypal and Patreon, all of which are tax deductible.
