Established in 2011 to support the Groovix Cube, Air Light Time & Space, or ALTSpace has since helped hundreds of artists to realize their creative visions. Many projects built at ALTSpace have been displayed at Burning Man and the space is run according to Burning Man's 10 principals. At ALTSpace members freely share their tools, skills, knowledge, and leftover parts or materials.

From 2018 to early 2020 ALTSpace was stewarded by Ignition Northwest, the local non-profit that produces Critical Northwest, the Puget Sound's regional Burning Man event. However, in April 2020, following the worldwide pandemic of COVID-19, Ignition Northwest was no longer able to support the space financially and negotiated an early exit from their lease. Since then ALTSpace has been under the control of a new member-owned entity, the Society of Air Light Time and Space, a Washington State social purpose corporation.
