Access Space is a free, open access digital lab. All sorts of people use it to pursue their own technical and creative projects and contribute to a community of support. The lab's network is built from recycled computers running free, open source software. Access Space mobilises the community to develop new models of knowledge transfer, personal growth and urban regeneration, and advocates a greener, more inclusive, more empowering and sustainable relationship with technology.
Access Space continuously receives donations of redundant technology for recycling, so it has an almost infinite supply of trash electronics available for members to reuse and repurpose.
In 2012 Access Space has expanded into a new unit, creating Refabspace - Sheffield's first FabLab. The lab is equipped with a laser cutter, a large CNC machine, a micro-sized mill, a digitally-programmable embroidery machine, a drill press, solder stations, some electronics tools, a RepRap and number of hand and power tools. Use of Access Space is free, and RefabSpace is open to "Friends of Access Space" who make a reasonable monthly contribution (Suggested: £20, dependent on usage.)
